Toothprints

As a parent, one of your greatest fears is that your child might get lost, or worse, be abducted. If this were to occur, your rapid response, photos and other means of identification, is extremely important. Toothprints bite impressions were developed by a pediatric dentist to assist in safeguarding and identifying children.

· Dental imprints are unique to every person, so bite impressions, like fingerprints, can be used for identification. Historically, forensic dentists have used x-rays and fillings for dental identification. With modern preventative dentistry, many children have no cavities, and therefore no extensive dental records. The Toothprints impression captures the child's bite mark and saliva, important for DNA sampling and a source of scent for tracking dogs.

· Toothprint impressions are recommended at ages 3, 7-8 and 12-13. This shows the teeth in the progression from primary (baby) teeth to the permanent teeth.
